Illumina, a global leader in the biotechnology industry, provides genome/DNA sequencing solutions to improve human healthcare. With a strong emphasis on innovation and customer satisfaction, Illumina recognized the critical role of QA and testing in achieving its goals. The company sought a partner to address QA challenges and implement consistent Quality Assurance Frameworks, including reducing reliance on manual testing and implementing robust automation frameworks.
CelticQA Solutions (CQA) was selected as Illumina’s strategic partner to provide QA and testing services. CQA worked closely with Illumina’s IT team, initially focusing on implementing an improved and scalable QA process for a set of automated tests. This involved developing a formal approach to test case creation, reviewing test cases, and creating an automated testing framework with source control implementation.
Through the collaboration between Illumina and CQA, a consistent QA and testing process was established across multiple key applications, systems, and projects. The implementation of automated test solutions, leveraging tools such as Ranorex, C#, and SQL, led to significant improvements in testing coverage, including functional UI, API, and database tests.
The modular approach adopted for test case creation increased maintainability and reusability across different applications, geographic regions, and environment setups. As a result, regression testing cycles were executed with confidence and efficiency, reducing the time spent on manual testing by thousands of hours annually. The automated test solutions also facilitated the early identification and resolution of project-related defects and issues.
Illumina’s investment in the partnership with CQA resulted in immediate and continuous ROI. The collaboration continues to guide Illumina’s QA and testing initiatives, aiming to establish a consistent QA and testing process across all IT teams and increase regression test automation coverage for critical applications and systems.
